Why do people judge themselves by the number of friends they have? There is a surprising reason why it’s okay not to have many friends.
Friends Are Distractions
Friends can be distractions. You will most likely lose contact with friends you knew at once in your life. You will probably forget about most of the people you knew at one point. It is natural for friendships to end. How many people do you know who genuinely have that? I only know two people who have maintained a friendship with a best friend for over a decade.
Many of the friends I thought were my friends in my twenties were just shallow and superficial people. They mostly spent time with me, so they would have someone to talk with when they wanted to go to the bar or try a new restaurant. This cost me valuable time and money that would have been better spent focusing on myself.
The sooner you focus on yourself, the faster you discover your skills and strengths. This will help you to get ahead of your peers.
Focus on Yourself
How can you focus on yourself? It would be best if you first learned your strengths and your weaknesses. When you know what your strengths are, then you can work to hone those skills. For example, my best skills are writing, search engine optimization, data analytics, and online business. I write content for my website Secure Single and now this Substack. I am also preparing to self-publish my first book.
Books are forms are passive income. You can now print books on demand through Amazon. Other products you can sell online are also printed on demand. Merch is a big one.
Society and people distract you and keep you from getting to know your strengths. It would help if you discovered what your strengths and skills are. It would help if you found ways to monetize them so that you can live. Ideally, make enough money so that you can thrive! You could learn in-demand skills that pay well. Hard skills that employers will pay you for because it is needed in the marketplace.
But don’t try to force a skill. I tried to do that when I went to graduate school for cybersecurity. That ended up being a waste of three years of my life. You can look at skills in high demand today to see if they match your skill set and knowledge. You can then begin to make money.
Once you have money, you can then invest your money into other things to make your money work for you. It could be investing in the stock market, real estate, or business. If you do not know your strengths, you will remain stuck, get angry, and continue to do as people and your friends tell you to do because they think they know you better than you know yourself.
If you do not know yourself, what your values, principles, and strengths are, then you will never succeed because you will focus on pleasing others instead of focusing on yourself. You can focus on yourself. This is the way to success.
The bottom line is that the sooner you stop wasting your time pleasing other people, the faster you can start to improve yourself. The quicker you can discover your hard skills and knowledge, the more likely you will find yourself becoming successful and doing something you like.
Knowledge is not power. Applied knowledge is power.
