The Case Against College (Part 8)
I continue in part eight to make the case against college. Here are three more reasons why young people should not go to college.
I've included my previous reasons against college below. These are the next three reasons young people should avoid the higher education system.
Recommended:
Prolongs Adulthood
First, it prolongs adulthood. When I was in college, the term “adulting” came about. The word essentially meant a new middle stage between being children and becoming adults. A large part of the “adulting” idea can be traced back to college because students are only exposed to the worlds of academia and campus life rather than how the real world works.
College is simply a way for young people to prolong adulthood. College has contributed to the phrase “adulting.” Students live in dorms. Students will often go out with their friends after studying. Students often live in, near, and spend time on a college campus that is secluded from the city's problems. All of these factors help to create soft people. They are unfamiliar with the issues that happen in the real world outside of the college campus. In most cases, students are taught ideological views about the world from an academic.
Learn Arbitrary Information
Second, you are taught arbitrary information in college. The only reason why you are told this information is to test your memorization skills. You will then be tested on your ability to learn. You most often know about dates, numbers, information about someone or a period of history, or to explain how something operates. You are just describing the information your professor wants so that he can know if you read the required book for the class.
Arbitrary information does not help you to improve yourself. Information can only benefit you if applied practically to your life. In most cases, college does not teach you the information that will help you succeed. There are only a few cases where going to college makes sense. That is, if you want to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer, or work in a STEM field. Colleges keep adding more worthless degrees to attract more students.

Taught To Regurgitate Information
Third, you are taught to regurgitate information. By barfing back information to your professor, you show that you did what you were told by studying for your quiz or test. You learn to study for the way a professor tests. Students often will ask the professor what to expect for the test so they can hone their studying for the test.
The quiz and testing style primarily helps those students who are good test takers. When I was in college, I was not a good test taker. I have always been a bad test taker. Despite spending many studying in the library (even the librarians joked that they should make a plaque for where I studied), I never was able to do well on my exams. This is because I cannot memorize random information just for a test. I don’t do well under pressure. It is not how I learn.
This is an attribute of someone who does what they are told rather than being able to think for themselves. You must know how you learn.
In brief, the objective of the education system — particularly the higher education system— is to make you a good employee. Common traits of a good employee include being able to regurgitate information, tell your boss what they want to hear, blind obedience, and lacking critical thinking skills.
Understand Your Learning Style
You must know how you learn. People learn in many different ways, yet the education system primarily determines if people know something by if students can pass tests. The sooner you can figure out your learning style, the sooner you can self-learn, which is the greatest form of education.
Not everyone needs to go to college. As I discussed in part six, there is now an oversupply of college degrees. The best thing anyone can do is to learn to make passive income. The Internet has made this easier to do. When you know yourself and your skills, you will be able to more easily discover the best method to make money online that works with your skill set.
I learn best by researching, synthesizing information, then writing about a topic. Those three attributes have always been my best skills. It took me a while to finally learn my most notable talents, friends, and family comments. It would help if you knew what your best skills are.

Summary
The higher education system has become a way to stretch out when people become adults. The education system's goal is not to make you a critical thinker but a good employee. That is why students are taught to memorize and regurgitate arbitrary information from professors. Employers want employees who will do what they are told to, never ask critical questions, and do not want to find ways to make more money to beat inflation.
