Why You Want A Plan B (Part 2 - South America)
A Plan B is about risk mitigation and diversification.
This article continues where the first one left off, exploring more countries in South America that could be considered Plan B options. There are many reasons why someone may decide to move to another country. Someone may want a lower cost of living. A person may want more affordable healthcare compared to their current country. Someone may want to experience a different culture. Individuals could move because they think they are more likely to meet others who think as they do. These expats decided to leave their home countries for similar reasons as someone contemplating getting a Plan B in another country.
A Plan B is ultimately a form of risk mitigation. It is a form of insurance. You never hope that you want to use it, but you have the option. Or, you may enjoy your Plan B more than where you currently reside (Plan A) and decide to reside in that location as your permanent location.
A Plan B is about risk mitigation. You are reducing a potential risk that may concern you. Risk mitigation can be done on a smaller scale by planting fruit trees, having a garden, having animals, or having some emergency food just in case. You are not doing these things because you want a disaster to happen, but to protect yourself and be self-reliant if something does happen.
You are not forecasting if a disaster is going to happen like “experts” like to do with their models. You are instead looking at the past, learning from history, and seeing if the trajectory of the country you currently live in is on an upward or downward trend. A Plan B also gives you other opportunities to invest abroad, reduce your cost of living, and diversify in other countries rather than having all your eggs in one basket. You are giving yourself options.
